Home Network Restructuring
November 15th, 2005
I’ve been kind wanting to do this for a while .. but I never got around to completely flipping my network around.
Originally I had a Linux server running as my router/mail/web server. I’ve had one of the Linksys WRT54G Routers sitting around just acting as an access point for me, I decided to switch fully to using it (especially since I have the Sveasoft firmware for it, adding a whole lot of features to it, really more than that I had set up on my server).
After about an hour of tinkering .. its all switched over, mostly turning stuff off on the server and making it behave when its not in charge, I’ll probably have to keep fixing stuff as I go along, but so far so good, atleast basic internet and critical services from the outside work (mail+web). So this keeps me content for a while, I’ll have to fix up my install of TorrentFlux, I was kind of banking on the server being in charge of the network before, so I’ll probably have to forward some ports to make it work again, but it all can be fixed, and now I rely less on the server, overall its all good, and more reliable (server can crash and the network stays up).
